Principal's Message

We had a very successful first week for Tracks A, B, and C! Students are learning and reviewing our PBIS expectations daily in class and participated in our PBIS Kickoff Assembly on Friday. All of our Owls know how to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe at Legacy Academy.

Please continue to follow the directions of staff and the posted signs for arrival and dismissal. Alert and respectful driving ensures safety for all students. Please see the Handbook Highlights section below.

Data Confirmation is now open in the Aeries Parent Portal, and all parents must complete this process. Track A, B, and C teachers will be reaching out if you have not completed Data Confirmation as there are authorizations and updates that need to be made. Let the office know if you need assistance with this process.

Sincerely,

Adrienne Chase

Principal

Year-Round Student Attendance Calendars

Aeries Data Confirmation opened on July 2, 2026

This process must be completed in Aeries for each student by the first week of school.

You must complete data confirmation within the first week of school for Tracks A, B, and C, and by the first day of school for Tracks D and Jr. High. Please ensure that you have updated all of your emergency contacts, read all documents, and completed all authorizations.

Data Confirmation is the annual online process that requires parents and guardians to review, update, and confirm essential student and family information. This process helps to ensure the school district and each school site has accurate and current details for each enrolled Chino Valley USD student. To complete the Data Confirmation process, parents/guardians MUST be logged into their Aeries Parent Portal account.

Cell Phones, Smart Watches, & Other Electronics

Legacy Academy provides students with access to Chromebooks in all of our classrooms. Students should only use electronic devices under the direct supervision of the teacher, so there is no need for students to bring their own devices from home. This includes cell phones, smart watches, iPads, tablets, cameras, etc. It is recommended that all electronics be left at home and not brought to school. If a student brings electronics to school, the following guidelines must be adhered to:

  • Cell phones, smart watches, and electronic devices must be turned off and placed inside their backpack once students arrive on campus. The devices must stay inside the backpack and are not able to be accessed while the student is on campus.
  • Electronic devices include cell phones, smart watches, cameras, iPods/MP3 players, video game players, readers/tablets/iPads, wireless headphones (Air Pods, Beats, etc.).
  • Cell phones may be used once outside the gates at school dismissal as a means to communicate with parents.
  • At no time should someone be taking pictures or recording video while on campus or while under the supervision of school staff (to and from school, and school events).

Please note that the school is not responsible for the loss of personal electronic property and is unable to investigate the loss of personal electronic property.

Prohibition of Electronic Listening or Recording Devices in Classrooms: No electronic listening or recording device may be used in a classroom without the teacher and/or principal’s permission. The District’s policy regarding personal electronic devices extends to all AI-enabled wearables and smart glasses (e.g., Meta Ray-Bans). Due to the potential for these devices to discreetly record audio or video, connect to cellular phones, and access the internet, they are prohibited on all school campuses. This policy applies regardless of whether the devices contain prescription lenses. Students who need corrective eyewear should use standard, non-electronic eyewear while on school premises. (BP/AR 5131, EC 51512)

Food & Beverage

Students may bring a small snack for recess, water bottle, and lunch to school. Only water is permitted in the classroom. Breakfast can be eaten on campus if students are getting the provided breakfast from the cafeteria. Outside breakfast (i.e., Starbucks food or drinks) should not be brought on campus and will not be permitted into the classroom.

Students may bring a lunch to school if they do not want a lunch from the cafeteria. Do not send glass containers or sharp utensils (knife) as they are unsafe and can cause an injury. Sodas, sugary candy, and full-sized bags of chips are not appropriate for school lunch.

Lunches may only be dropped off before 11 AM for individual students. Please be sure your child has a lunch or knows to get lunch from the cafeteria when he/she leaves home in the morning. Clearly labeled late lunches will not be delivered to the classrooms but will be put into the “late lunchbox” cart in the office. Students are responsible for checking with the office staff or playground supervisors to see if their late lunches have been brought in.

Back to school night for Tracks A, B, and C is on July 22nd from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.

At Legacy Academy, we implement PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) to promote a safe and supportive learning environment. Our guiding principle is simple: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe! Throughout our campus, posters display clear examples of behavior expectations in different areas of the school, and staff are always excited and willing to help our students master our expectations.

According to the Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports, positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and wellbeing. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

Please call the school when your child is absent at (909) 364-2319

Parents/guardians shall call the school office between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm, submit the absence through the Parent Portal, or send an email/hand-written note to the office, upon returning to school (BP/AR 5112.1). You have three days to clear your child’s absence. Please contact the school office in advance of any long-term (3 or more days) unavoidable absence to arrange a schedule of the work to be completed by the student. This must be done at least one week in advance.

How to report an absence:

Year-Round Student Attendance Calendars

Absences

Absence Verification (AR 5113, EC 46012, 5 CCR 306)

CVUSD requests that parents/guardians clear their student’s absence daily. Parents/guardians have 5 school days to clear absences with the school's attendance clerk. If not cleared within five school days, the absence becomes unverified and cannot be changed.

The SARB Process as Established by LAW

A letter will be sent to the parent at the following intervals for unexcused or truancy absences:

  • Third (3) - Unexcused absences: Classified as a Truant (reported to attendance administrator) 1st Letter sent to home.
  • Sixth (6) - Unexcused absences: Second Truancy (again reported to attendance administrator) 2nd Letter and School Attendance Review Team (SART) meeting or meeting with administrator.
  • Ninth (9) - Unexcused absences: Third Truancy (classified as a habitual truant and subject to summons to appear at a School Attendance Review Board (SARB).

Note: Ten (10) excused absences are considered to be excessive. Education Code Sec. 48260 - Any pupil subject to full-time education or to compulsory education who is absent from school without a valid excuse more than (3) days or tardy or absent for more than any 30-minute period during the school day without a valid excuse or three occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof, is a truant and shall be reported to the attendance administrator or superintendent of the school district. A note from the doctor will be requested after 10 absences.

When a parent takes their child out of school early, for reasons not acceptable as excused, for longer than a 30 minute period, more than three times during the year, that child becomes a truant. If your child is absent due to a doctor/dentist appointment, please provide a note from the doctor to excuse the tardy, early release, or absence.
